10. Why Dogs Dig
If you have a yard with a dog who likes to dig, you know how frustrating it can be. It’s important to put blame on humans, though, before we blame our dogs. Why do dogs dig holes in my yard? The truth is that in many cases humans are at fault.
There are many dog breeds that were bred for hunting, and their natural instinct is to “dig out” their prey. This is why they love to play in the dirt and dig around in strategic locations—it’s a behavior that was encouraged by previous generations of dog breeders!
But that’s not the only reason dogs dig.
A lot of dogs have a natural tendency to dig out dens in the ground. A dog’s den prevents them from overheating in the summer and helps retain heat in the winter. If you can’t be mad at your pup for ruining your lawn, blame evolution.
