18. Bringing Gifts
Bringing gifts is seen as a form of communication across many species, including humans. Usually, it means the same thing: “I care about you.” Dogs are not the only species that engage in this behavior, and across most species, it means the same thing.
Dogs are not the best gift givers, but they just want to please their owners. If they bring a shoe or piece of fabric to an owner’s home, it may not be what they want, but there’s an acknowledgment that the dog cares about that person.
