Experts Explain 11 Cat Behaviors and the Reasons Behind Them

9. Why Cats Cry at Night

best cat toys

I’m sorry to hear that your cat is a night owl.

Cats are usually nocturnal, meaning they usually prowl around the house at night. Cats are not usually a problem until they start wailing loudly and wake you up.

These wails are the result of cats trying to catch prey inside the house. It is most common for them to be unsuccessful, but they might cry out of frustration if they are unable to find mice or insects to leap on. It is not much you can do to stop a cat from crying, other than playing with it during the day so that it is tired out, and then sleeps when you do. Cats usually cry at night when they are sleepy and you are asleep too.
